You may not have known this, but I am a superstar.

I am Mimi, and to two precious little girls, I am worth hours of art-presents, gazillions of the smushiest hugs, I am worth running to while my name is yelled, and I give the best snacks! Pretty great stuff, right?

Any grandparent in their right mind will tell you that being one is the best thing that ever happened to them. It is. It so is!!! When your child has a child, you get to LOVE just like you loved your own kids, but you get to do so from a tiny step back. This means that your only JOB in the whole thing is to have fun. You don’t have to worry about their future, or learn how to parent and be fair and feel so stinking responsible for every single thing. You just get to stare at them in fascination, and see glimpses of your own children. You get to be fun and ridiculous and not feel responsible at all. I don’t know which of those things is my favorite part, but I will tell you that being a Mimi fulfills something in me that I didn’t even know I was missing.

Any day now, I will get to meet my precious third grandbaby. My daughter is having her third child and somehow, her babies have been spaced almost exactly like mine, and she is having them at almost the same ages I was when I had my kids!! You can imagine we are sharing some really relatable moments!

The excitement, the joy, the falling in love, is about to happen all over again, and I am ecstatic!!! The jury is still out on whether it’s more excruciating to give birth or watch my own daughter go through such pain. I almost can’t stand that reality for her, though she is much tougher than I was. I was able to attend her first two births, and this time, thanks to the upside-down-world, I am grounded. Heart-wrenching stuff, this. But it is what it is, and God sees and knows and will do a much better job than even this momma. I trust Him to be so present in that room.

When push comes to shove (pun fully intended), that’s all we’ve got right? We set our babies, our grandbabies, our finances, our whole world in His hands and trust a plan, some hands, much bigger than ours.

That’s where I sit this week. Will you join me in praying for an easy and safe and beautiful delivery of grandbaby number three in God’s perfect timing? We’d all be so very grateful.
